David Merwin

Candidate for Ward 1

David Merwin, 70, is a nearly life-long resident of Ward 1 with a deep and proven commitment to public service. He has dedicated his entire adult life to making Ward 1 a better place to live.

David has served the community as a volunteer First Aider with the Laurence Harbor First Aid Squad for over 50 years and spent 30 years as a founding member of the Board of Directors for Old Bridge Township Emergency Medical Services. His service extends beyond emergency response—he has held roles on several key local boards, including the Library Board, the Township Planning Board, and the Old Bridge Municipal Utilities Authority.

He coordinated the local Memorial Day Parade for a decade, co-coordinated the Salt Water Day and Fireworks Festival for 24 years, and played a vital role on the Route 35 Center Barrier Committee, helping secure the installation of the barrier that has saved countless lives. David is also a founding and active member of the Citizen Advisory Group (CAG), focused on cleaning up and protecting our beachfront.

From 2018 to 2021, he proudly served as Ward 1 Councilman. Professionally, he retired from Old Bridge Township after 42 years of dedicated service, beginning as a 9-1-1 operator and concluding his career as a Code Enforcement and Housing Officer.

David isn’t running for state or federal office—he’s running for local office, where the only priority is doing what’s best for Ward 1 and Old Bridge Township.
